With plenty of warmth yet no severe heat, 2013 was an exceptional year for Zinfandel.  In fact, it was so strong that our blend of Zinfandels from Ray Teldeschi’s home ranch and Rich Mounts’ La Loma Block (planted in the late 1800s and early 1950s respectively) required much less Petite Sirah than usual, only 3% to be exact.  As always, bottled unfined and unfiltered.

Tasting Note: Medium-dark ruby-red.  Expressive aromas of red cherry, raspberry, dried tobacco, and dusty, iron-laced earth.  Medium full-bodied, this is a very pretty Zinfandel showing plenty of finesse in its bright red fruit and mineral-laced flavors.  This wine makes me think of Audrey Hepburn – beautiful, classic, elegant.  It speaks clearly and precisely of Dry Creek Valley.  For optimum pleasure, we’d recommend holding until 2016 and then enjoying anytime up until 2022.
