2008 Bennett Valley "Cardiac Hill" Syrah
100% Syrah
Picked October 13th, yields at Cardiac Hill were a miserly two tons to the acre, partly due to spring frost and partly due to poor set. Sixty percent of the fruit was destemmed while the remainder was left as whole clusters to increase aromatics and structure. Aged in all French oak, 30% new, and bottled unfined and unfiltered.
Tasting Note:
Vibrant dark ruby purple. Nearly opaque. Head-turning, high-toned aromas of violets, white pepper, crushed rock, and crème de cassis. Classic Syrah! On the palate, full-bodied with concentrated flavors of blackberry, black olive, and savory herbs. Very persistent with great definition and cut. A long, spice-laden finish. As much as we loved the 2007, this is even better. Enjoy 2011 through 2020. (MRO – 08/01/10)
