As was the case with many other Russian River Valley Zinfandel vineyards that endured the hellish heat of September 1st and 2nd, yields were down significantly for these 95-year-old vines.  In fact, yields here were half of what they were in 2016.  Picked September 28th, the must was cold soaked for five days before inoculation for fermentation.  Pressed 21 days later to all French oak, 30% new, and bottled unfined and unfiltered.

Tasting Note:

Medium-dark to dark ruby-red.  Potent aromas of autumnal fruits such as pomegranate, cranberry, and dried cherries are enhanced by notes of bramble and spice.  Quel nez!  Medium-full bodied, intense, concentrated flavors of amarena cherry envelop the palate, carrying through the chalky, mineral-laden finish.  Texturally, I’m reminded of a Southern Rhône wine grown in limestone.  Enjoy from 2020 through 2029.
