“Here come da Judge… Here come da Judge.” A new vineyard for us? No, not really. Our 2003 Bennett Valley Syrah was exclusively from this vineyard but the grower was still trying to figure out his vineyard name when we went to press for our labels. Although we love the 2003 (in a freakish kind of way), we think the 2004 is a better wine. Why? Better balance and more typicity. Bottled unfined and unfiltered.
Tasting Note:
Very dark ruby. Verging on opaque. Hi-toned, penetrating aromas of black raspberry, black olive, bay leaf, and well-aged beef. A suggestion of mocha as well. Rich, full-bodied, but not at all over-the-top due to its excellent acidity. This wine will age well. Drink between 2007 and 2014. (MRO – 11/1/06)
