Montecillo Vineyard
Sonoma Valley
Planted in the 1960s, Montecillo Vineyards sits at 1725’ elevation on the Sonoma side of the Mayacamas Mountains above the town of Kenwood, just 680 yards from the Napa county line. This is old-school, mountain Cabernet Sauvignon, dry-farmed and grown on St. George rootstock in Red Hill clay loam soils on a California sprawl trellis system. Owned by Kaarin Lee, this vineyard was the backbone of the Kenwood Artist series Cabernets from the 1970s and 1980s, providing classic Cabernet Sauvignons flavors and aromas and plenty of structure from the mountain-grown tannins. We consider ourselves very fortunate to get a small amount of fruit from this historic vineyard.
