Planted in 1914 by Charlie Derrick, this organic and dry-farmed vineyard is predominantly Zinfandel with a small amount of Carignane. Yields in 2005 were approximately one ton to the acre. Fermented indigenously, it was bottled unfiltered after 16 months in French oak, 20% new.
Tasting Note:
Medium-dark to dark ruby. A delicious nose of sweet red cherries and plums is highlighted by notes of citrus peel, earth, and cream. Full-bodied but with plenty of structure and tannin to keep everything in balance. Although drinkable now, tannins on the finish suggest this wine will be best from 2008 through 2012. (MRO – 3/1/07)
