Planted in 1914 by Charlie Derrick, this organic and dry-farmed vineyard is predominantly Zinfandel with a small amount of Carignane. Picked September 22nd, the must was cold soaked for 5 days before being inoculated for fermentation. Pressed to all French oak, 20% new, and bottled unfined and unfiltered.
Tasting Note:
Medium-dark ruby. Maraschino cherries, red licorice whips, and just a hint of buttery-goodness greet the nose. Mmmmmm! On the palate, quite full-bodied but with ample tannins and acidity, not at all flabby or oafish. This should age quite well. Begin drinking in mid-2009 and enjoy through 2015. (MRO – 3/1/08)
