Our first fruit of the vintage! In fact, a rare August picking for us, coming in on August 31st. Yields from this 1914 planting were a scant .85 ton to the acre. Fourteen days on the skins. All French oak but only 22% new. Bottled unfined and unfiltered.
Tasting Note:
Medium to medium-dark ruby-garnet. An alluring nose of fresh cherries, red licorice whips, and Dry Creek earth. Full-bodied but bright and focused with its mouth filling cherry fruit punctuated by invigorating tannins on the finish. Our best Gold Mine to date? We think so. Optimum enjoyment should be 2010 through 2014. (MRO – 7/17/09)
