2010 Sonoma Valley "Compagni Portis" White Wine
100% Field blend of Gewurztraminer, Trousseau gris, Riesling, and other mixed whites
Drum roll please! We are very pleased to announce our first white wine! For years I said we would never make a “see-through” but when offered fruit from this 56-year-old, organically farmed vineyard by my good friend Morgan Twain-Peterson, there was no way I could say no. Picked as a single lot, the fruit was whole cluster pressed and fermented in a mix of stainless steel and older, neutral oak barrels to fully capture the fragrance of the varieties. We did nothing to inhibit malolactic fermentation but none took place.
Tasting Note:
Pale, white gold with a shimmering tinge of green-yellow. Gorgeous, high-toned aromas of lychee, damask rose, and myrrh. Smells like one of my favorite heirloom roses, Madame Isaac Pereire! Medium bodied with a pleasing silkiness, flavors of pear, tangerine, and lychee flow through the mineral-laden, bone-dry finish. Enjoy this highly perfumed and refreshing wine from release through 2014. (MRO – 01/17/12)
