2012 Mendocino Ridge "DuPratt Vineyard" Zinfandel
100% Zinfandel
We work with many beautiful old-vine vineyards but none is perhaps as picturesque and scenic as the 93-year-old DuPratt Vineyard. Situated at nearly 1600’ elevation on a ridge top just a few miles away from the Pacific Ocean, the vineyard is surrounded by dense redwood forest and ancient apple trees. Deer, wild turkey, and various raptors are seen nearly every visit. Despite it’s sunny, southwest exposure, this is a relatively cool site where acids can remain stubbornly high. However, in this reasonably warm vintage, acids and sugars were in perfect harmony by the time the fruit was picked on October 12th. Bottled unfined and unfiltered.
Tasting Note:
Medium-dark ruby-garnet. Aromas of cranberries, red cherries, black pepper, and allspice. A subtle resinous/woodsy note reminiscent of the forest that surrounds the vineyard. With ample acidity, sharply delineated and laser-like in its focus, flavors of pomegranate, raspberry, and tart red cherry flow through the persistent finish. All the elements are in place for this wine to develop and age gracefully. Best from 2015 through 2024. (MRO – 01/18/14)
