2012 Napa Valley "Hayne Vineyard" Zinfandel
99% Zinfandel
1% Interplanted Petite Sirah, Trousseau, and Peloursin
Under the impeccable care and farming of vineyard manager Jim Munk, our section of the historic Hayne Vineyard (planted 1903!) delivered amazing fruit in 2012. Dry farmed, cluster and berry size at Hayne is always much smaller than average, yielding a Zinfandel of uncommon breed and nobility. From a winemaking perspective, there are really no decisions to be made. Just pick, ferment indigenously, and bottle unfined and unfiltered. With fruit this good, even a monkey could make great wine!
Tasting Note:
Dark ruby-garnet. Effusive aromas of raspberry, cherry, rose petals, and a hint of camphor. In the mouth, luscious, rich, and powerful. Yet, at the same time, amazingly polished and balanced with flavors of black raspberry, licorice, and rose. A wine that evolves and develops in the glass, displaying the full glory of this truly majestic vineyard. Delicious now, enjoy from release through 2020. (MRO – 07/18/14)
