2012 Sonoma Valley "Compagni Portis" White Wine
100% Field blend of Gewurztraminer, Trousseau gris, Riesling, and other mixed whites
In 2012 we were elated to receive nearly two and half times the amount of Compagni Portis than we did in 2011. But for whatever reason (Thick skins? Juiceless berries? Too gentle of a press cycle?), all we could extract was a paltry 90 gals per ton. The year before our juice yield was 132 gals per ton! As a result, while we have more of this unique, highly perfumed, old-vine white wine field blend, it’s not too much more. Fermented in all stainless steel. No malolactic fermentation.
Tasting Note:
Pale white-yellow. An absolute knockout perfumed nose of lychee, damask rose, and citrus fruits. Wow! The wine enters medium-bodied with flavors of rose hip, kaffir lime, and tart green apple. Not at all fat with acidity providing plenty of cut and verve. Very refreshing. We don’t have a long track record with this vineyard but I suspect this should age well. Enjoy from release through 2021. (MRO – 01/18/14)
