2013 Sonoma Valley "Compagni Portis" White Wine
100% Field blend of Gewurztraminer, Trousseau gris, Riesling, and other mixed whites
After tiny production in 2012 due to rain at bloom, the weather could not have been any more perfect for bloom and set in 2013. The result was a yield of nearly 3 tons to the acre, almost double the amount of 2012. Yahoo! An old-vine field blend of Gewurztraminer, Trousseau gris, Riesling, Chardonnay, and Roter Veltliner, fermentation was completely in stainless steel. No malolactic fermentation to preserve acidity. On the lees (but not stirred) for nearly 17 months.
Tasting Note:
Pale white-yellow. A stunningly beautiful nose of lychee, heirloom rose, lime, and musk. The aromas are totally addictive! Medium-bodied and bone dry, flavors of lime, green apple, and rose on the palate. As with previous versions, very refreshing with great persistence and cut on the finish. Pairs very well with roasted pork tenderloin in a Calvados reduction sauce. Based on how the first couple of vintages are aging, enjoy this delicious, perfumed white from release through 2022.
