2015 Sonoma Valley "Rossi Ranch" Grenache
100% Grenache
It’s back and better than before! While the 2014 had great aromatics, we just couldn’t get the palate right. It was hard as nails with a very dry, chalky finish. Hence, it was not bottled. But in 2015, everything clicked. Flavors, aromas, texture, finish... Definitely the complete package. The only thing that didn’t work in our favor was yield, a paltry 1.1 tons instead of the four we initially expected. Such is farming and the whims of Mother Nature. Aged in all neutral oak and bottled unfined and unfiltered.
Tasting Note:
Medium garnet-ruby. Holy smokes! An incredibly perfumed, incense-like nose of strawberry, kirsch, and sandalwood. Essence of Grenache! Supple on entry, flavors of red currant, strawberry and kirsch abound. The wine finishes long with plenty of spice and a gentle tannic grip. Surprisingly (or perhaps not), almost Pinot Noir-like. We find this wine delicious now but suspect it will drink well for the next decade. (MRO – 07/18/17)
