2017 Russian River Valley "Limerick Lane Vineyard" Zinfandel
99% Zinfandel
1% Mixed Black Varieties (Petite Sirah, Peloursin, Trousseau)
Planted in 1910, this vineyard is located in an area of the Russian River Valley that some refer to as “the crucible”. Why crucible? Because this warm area of the Russian River Valley, where Dry Creek Valley, Alexander Valley, and Chalk Hill all meet, is exactly that, a melting pot of sorts, supporting everything from Pinot Noir to Cabernet Sauvignon. Picked August 30th, the must was cold soaked for five days before inoculation with a high polysaccharide producing yeast. Polysaccharides increase mouthfeel and roundness in a wine. Twenty percent new French oak. Bottled unfined and unfiltered.
Tasting Note:
Medium-dark to dark ruby-red. A very deep and powerful nose of ripe red cherries, river stones, and forest. Raspberries and cherries lead the charge on the palate, complemented by notes of tobacco and clove. Both acidity and tannin are deftly balanced to provide freshness to this concentrated wine. Drinkable on release, this wine will also improve with additional aging. Enjoy from late 2020 through 2027. (MRO - 01/10/19)
