2017 Russian River Valley "Two Acres" Red Wine
90% Mourvèdre
10% Mixed black varieties (Petite Sirah, Peloursin, Syrah, Carignan, and Alicante Bouschet)
With plenty of clay present in this vineyard’s Huichica loam soil, the Mourvèdre handled the Labor Day heatwave like a champ. The other varieties? Notwithstanding heat-loving Carignan, not so much. The end result is that this year’s rendition is much higher in Mourvèdre than usual. But make no mistake about it, this is classic Two Acres, as distinct and unique as ever. Bottled unfined and unfiltered.
Tasting Note:
Medium-dark to dark ruby-garnet. Cool aromas of cherry, red licorice whips, game, and rose petal. The wine glides over the palate only as Two Acres can, displaying flavors of cherry, cured game meat, and a pleasant woodsy spice. Tannins emerging in the finish bode well for further development. Enjoy this California original from 2024 through 2034. (MRO - 11/01/19)
