2017 Sonoma Valley "Compagni Portis" White Wine
100% Field blend of Gewurztraminer, Trousseau gris, Riesling, and other mixed whites
Picked August 29th at 23.8 Brix, while yields weren’t quite as high as 2016, we were thrilled nonetheless to receive 2.9 tons from this vineyard planted in 1954. As usual, fully destemmed and soaked on the skins for approximately four hours to increase aromatics before gently pressing to stainless for fermentation. No malolactic to preserve acidity and fined only with bentonite clay, making this wine vegan-friendly.
Tasting Note:
Pale straw-yellow. Lychee fruit, myrrh, and plenty of old rose perfume intoxicate and nearly overwhelm the senses. This is sexy stuff! Medium-bodied with great acidity, lychee, lime, and pear burst on the palate, leading to a long and expansive finish. Of all the wines we produce, this is always one of Kendall’s favorite. She says this is her favorite rendition yet. Can’t argue with that! Enjoy this fragrant beauty from release through 2025. (MRO - 01/10/19)
