2018 Russian River Valley "Limerick Lane Vineyard" Zinfandel
95% Zinfandel
5% Mixed Black Varieties (Petite Sirah, Peloursin, Trousseau)
In the Russian River Valley, there are three areas where one finds concentrations of old-vine vineyards. Limerick Lane (the street, not just the winery) is one such area. It’s the warmest of the three areas and hence usually the first of our Russian River Zinfandels to be picked. 2018 was no exception with 1.7 tons coming in on September 18th. Cold-soaked for five days. On the skins for 19 days. Twenty-five percent new French oak. Bottled unfined and unfiltered after 15 months aging.
Tasting Note:
Medium to medium-dark ruby-red. A perfumed, hi-toned nose of cherries, red raspberry, and fresh tobacco leaf. On the palate, medium-full bodied with flavors of red currants, cherries, and pomegranate. Almost Pinot Noir-esque in its suave, sophisticated texture. Finishes long with refreshing and very refined tannins. Optimum enjoyment should be between 2021 and 2027. (MRO - 1/15/20)
