2018 Russian River Valley "Papera Ranch" Zinfandel
96% Zinfandel
4% Carignan
Being our largest production wine, to give ourselves as broad a palette of flavors, aromas, and textures as possible, we picked the old vines of Papera Ranch in five passes between September 25th through October 13th. Each pick turned out wonderfully but the following spring, once malolactic fermentations were complete, we rolled up our sleeves and assembled the finest blend possible, using approximately 80% of the available wine. Aged in all French oak, 23% new, and bottled unfined and unfiltered.
Tasting Note:
Medium-dark garnet-ruby. Heady, concentrated aromas of macerated cherries and raspberries are complemented by notes of blood orange. Holy great sniffs Batman! The wine enters the mouth with medium-full to full body and offers flavors of black raspberry and amarena, Italian black cherry. Zesty acidity in the lingering finish bodes well for further development. Optimum enjoyment should be from 2022 to 2028. (MRO - 07/10/20)
