2018 Sonoma Valley "Compagni Portis" White Wine
100% Field blend of Gewurztraminer, Trousseau gris, Riesling, and other mixed whites
As usual, our first fruit of the vintage, coming in on September 8th at a perfectly ripe Brix of 22.4. Alas, while quality was high, yields were on the low side (this is an early blooming vineyard) at 2.2 tons. The fruit was fully destemmed and soaked for several hours before being gently pressed to all stainless steel for fermentation. Fined only with bentonite clay for protein stability. No malolactic fermentation to keep the wine fresh and vibrant.
Tasting Note:
Pale straw-yellow. Heady aromas of lychee, red apple, nectarine, and rose petal. What a sniff! Medium-bodied with great acidity, flavors of lychee, lime, apple, and chamomile build through the long and expansive finish. Kendall will once again be very happy with this rendition. Optimum enjoyment of this highly perfumed wine should be from release through 2026. (MRO - 01/15/20)
