2019 Russian River Valley "Mancini Ranch" Zinfandel
85% Zinfandel
15% Mixed Black Varieties (Carignan, Abouriou, Valdiguié, Alicante Bouschet, Grand Noir, Petite Sirah)
Planted in 1922 by Luca Mancini, Mancini Ranch is one of our more diverse vineyards, with one block consisting of more white varieties (mainly Muscadelle, Colombard, and Palomino) than red. Nevertheless, Zinfandel still reigns supreme here, made all the more complex by the addition of over 14 other red varieties. A true field blend! Picked on October 1st, the must was cold soaked for five days before indigenous fermentation began. After a total of 18 days on the skins, the wine was pressed to all French oak, only 15% new, and bottled unfined and unfiltered.
Tasting Note:
Vivid ruby garnet. Almost electric in its brilliance. Aromatically, stunning! Head turning aromas of raspberry, cherry, and Red Haven peach. A hint of blood orange and tobacco leaf as well. The wine enters full and rich but as usual, ample acidity (a characteristic of this vineyard), keeps the wine light on its feet. Fabulous texture and balance. Already very enjoyable, drink from 2022 through 2028. (MRO - 07/18/21)
