2019 Santa Lucia Highlands "Rosella's Vineyard" Syrah
100% Syrah
Our second to last fruit of the year, coming in on October 21st, 80% of the fruit was destemmed while the remainder was left as whole clusters to add complexity to the nose and palate. If you enjoy more savory, peppery Syrahs, à la the Northern Rhône, this will be right up your alley. A five-day cold soak, indigenous fermentation, and 21 days on the skins. Aged in all French oak, 19% new, and bottled unfined and unfiltered.
Tasting Note:
Dark vibrant purple-ruby. A full glass is nearly opaque. On the nose, black raspberry, fresh cream, white and black pepper, dried herbs, and a smell that evokes memories of warm river stones. Medium-full bodied, flavors of elderberry and mulberry are mixed with notes of sage, thyme, pepper, and charcoal. In a word, superb. Youthful tannins in the finish indicate this wine will age well. Hold for several more years and then enjoy anytime between 2025 and 2036. (MRO - 07/18/21)
