2019 Sonoma Mountain “Steiner Vineyard” Grüner Veltliner
100% Grüner Veltliner
Another fantastic vintage for the Grüner at Steiner! The terraced section was picked on September 10th at a near perfect 22.3 Brix and a titratable acidity (TA) of 7.5 g/L. Ten days later we picked the “flats” section on September 20th at 22.0 Brix and 6.3 TA. I’m not sure why we call it the “flats” when it’s a block planted on a small hill. Oh well. Nomenclature aside, in the end, we found the best blend to be all of the “flats” and two-thirds of the terraces. Aged in all stainless steel. No malolactic fermentation to preserve acidity. Lightly fined with bentonite and filtered for stability.
Tasting Note:
Medium-light green-gold yellow. Fragrant aromas of pear, white grapefruit, and fresh straw. Medium bodied with crisp acidity, flavors of lime, quince, and citrus pith make for a very refreshing drop. I really admire how the wine stays so fresh and lively on the palate. This will do very well at the dinner table with everything from baked chicken to any white fish to something even more substantial like a wild mushroom-stuffed pork loin. Enjoy from release through 2027. (MRO - 01/05/21)
