2020 Russian River Valley "Two Acres" Red Wine
100% Field blend of Mourvèdre, Syrah, Petite Sirah, Carignan, Peloursin, Alicante Bouschet, and Zinfandel
One of the factors that determines a vine’s fruitfulness is the weather the previous spring. In May of 2019, we had three times as much rain as normal. Unfortunately, this had a severe impact on the development and the fruitfulness of buds for 2020. As a result, these two acres of 110-year-old vines produced a paltry 1.078 tons. Sadly, that’s total, not per acre. Picked September 21st at 26 Brix, the wine spent 18 days on the skins before being pressed to two older, neutral barrels. Bottled unfined and unfiltered.
Tasting Note:
Medium-dark to dark ruby-garnet. Cherries, tree bark, forest floor in the nose. Medium-full bodied, flavors of cherries, smoked game, and cream (a signature of this vineyard) flow across the palate. Finishes quite lively with plenty of thrust and grip. Age worthy. Kendall’s favorite Two Acres in quite some time. We’d recommend putting this away for several years and then enjoying from 2026 to 2034. (MRO - 07/18/22)
