2021 Napa Valley "Palisades Vineyard" Petite Sirah
100% Petite Sirah
Yields in 2021 were below average for our old-vine block at Palisades, coming in at approximately 2.25 tons to the acre. Picked September 11th, the must was cold soaked for 6 days before inoculation for fermentation. Two weeks later the wine was dry and the tank was sealed for extended maceration. But in this vintage, we found the wine had the right tannin balance after only another six days on the skins. Hence, it was pressed after a total of 25 days in tank to all French oak, 25% new. Bottled unfined and unfiltered
Tasting Note:
Consistent as ever, black ruby-purple in color. A full pour is opaque. Concentrated, brooding aromas of blueberry, earth, and graham cracker. Think blueberry pie! Plenty of typical Pet grip but with its wealth of fruit, not overly tannic with a finish that sails on. Dang this is tasty! Enjoy early with robust food or put away for five-plus years and enjoy from 2028 through 2040. (MRO - 01/17/23)
