2021 Russian River Valley "Limerick Lane Vineyard" Zinfandel
98% Zinfandel
2% Mixed Black Varieties (Petite Sirah, Trousseau, Peloursin)
Sadly, our last Limerick Lane Zinfandel. It’s been a great 10-year run but as they say, all good things must come to an end. Due to shatter (the term used for when a grape flower doesn’t produce a normal sized berry, or any berry at all), yields were quite light in this vintage, hovering right around the 1-ton per acre mark. Picked on September 14th, the fruit was fully destemmed and cold soaked for 5 days before fermentation. Sixteen days on the skins, all French oak (one third new), and bottled unfined and unfiltered.
Tasting Note:
Beautiful, shimmering medium ruby-garnet. A fragrant nose of red cherries, a whiff of peach, and some light brown baking spices. Red fruits abound in this stylish, medium-full bodied wine. Often our Limerick Lane Zin seems more Dry Creek in character (logical given that the vineyard is close to the southern end of Dry Creek Valley) but in this cool vintage, with sound acidity this renditions speaks much more of Russian River Valley. Drinkable now, optimal enjoyment should be 2025 through 2031. (MRO - 01/17/23)
