I have to laugh every time I look at what went into our “entry level” Sonoma County Zinfandel.  Most wineries would call this a “Reserve” and charge double or triple!  But after blending vineyard designates and AVA wines, we found we had a couple of barrels of some great wines leftover.  Furthermore, our favorite Pagani blend happened to be the most copious, more than I was comfortable bottling.  Hence, we peeled off 5.5 barrels of the Pagani to use as a base and blended in the other three components, all from vineyards planted between 1885 and 1927.  The result is a killer old-vine Zin at a bargain of a price.  Nine percent new French oak.  Unfined and unfiltered.

Sonoma County Zinfandel

Tasting Note:

Medium to medium-dark ruby-garnet.  Fragrant, intense aromas of cherry, red and black licorice, and cinnamon.  Red Hots come to mind!  Texturally, stunning, with a beautiful mouthcoating sensation.  Flavors of red cherry, earth, licorice, and spice carry through the long and persistent finish.  This is crazy good no matter what the price!  Drink from release through 2030.
