Our Dry Creek Valley Zinfandel has a bit of a twist in 2022.  Historically, we’ve always blended in a bit of Petite Sirah from Mounts Ranch, one of the two sources of Zinfandel for this bottling.  But while the Mounts Zin was ready and picked on August 29th, and the Teldeschi Zin was ready and picked on September 1st, the Mounts Petite Sirah was nowhere near ready and had to hang longer.  Unfortunately, however, the vascularly challenged Petite did not fare well through the intense post-Labor Day heat wave and we had to forego picking it.  But what would a Dry Creek Zin be without a little Pet?  The solution?  Sacrifice a little of our Palisades Petite Sirah.  Fortunately, after performing blending trials, we discovered it took only 2% to get the wine exactly where we wanted.  Bottled unfined and unfiltered.

Tasting Note:

Lurid medium-dark ruby-garnet.  Grenadine, sweet dried tobacco, fragrant herbs, and a slight dustiness all greet the nose.  The wine enters with a mouthcoating texture but surprisingly doesn’t feel heavy.  This seems to be a common characteristic of our 2022s.  Flavors of red cherry, loamy earth, and a note of iron lead to a refreshing energetic finish.  I could drink this all night long!  Enjoy from release through 2035.
