Like many vineyards in this vintage, yields were a bit below average at Papera Ranch but still a respectable 2.75 tons to the acre (more typical is 3 to 3.25 tons per acre).  The lighter load proved to be fortuitous though as the fruit was ready to be picked on September 8th, just two days into the heatwave.  Being our largest lot, we were able to divide the fully-destemmed fruit across four different tanks, treating each tank a bit differently to create as broad of a flavor and aroma palette as possible.  The strategy worked as blending trials revealed that three tanks and just under half of the fourth tank produced the finest wine.  Unfined.  Unfiltered.  A more than worthy follow-up to the 2021 which landed at #21 on the Wine Spectator’s 2024 Top 100 list.

Tasting Note:

Medium-dark to dark garnet-ruby. An incredibly gorgeous, hi-toned nose of raspberry, cherry, Red Haven peach, and fresh tobacco.  It’s difficult to pull your nose away from the glass!  On the palate, medium-full bodied with flavors of raspberry, red licorice whips, cinnamon, and blood orange.  So jubilant, so refreshing.  Just an utter joy to drink.  Enjoy now but with ample acidity and perfect balance, this wine should still be in fine form in 2036.
