2022 Sonoma Valley "Rossi Ranch" Grenache
75% Grenache
25% Mourvèdre
After normal yields in 2021, our Grenache at Rossi Ranch shattered significantly in 2022, reducing yields by nearly 30%. But the good news is that the Mourvèdre set very well. As a result, our Grenache from this vintage is higher than ever in Mourvèdre, 25% in fact. Picked October 4th, 29% of the fruit (composed of 37% Grenache and 63% Mourvèdre) was left as whole cluster while the remainder was destemmed and gently crushed. After a 6-day cold soak, the must was inoculated for fermentation. Another 18 days later, the wine was gently pressed to all used, neutral French oak, including one 600 L demi-muid. Bottled unfined and unfiltered.

Tasting Note:
Medium-light to medium garnet-ruby. Don’t let the pale color fool you. This wine is packin’! Intensely perfumed aromas of strawberry, raspberry, blood orange, and sweet baking spices waft from the glass. The palate is equally compelling with plenty of red berry fruit and spice, all framed by lively acidity and suave, polished tannins. While certainly pleasurable now, this wine will age and develop exceedingly well. Peak enjoyment should be around 2032 but it will hold and drink well for at least another five to eight years after that. (MRO - 01/16/25)
